Between our home laundry and my business laundry, I go through a lot of dryer sheets in a month.
Fortunately, I know how to shop on sale with coupons so I can get the biggest bang for my buck.
To make our money stretch even further, I always cut our dryer sheets in half for our personal laundry.
After I open my new box of dryer sheets, I cut them all in half with my sharpest scissors. Go ahead and do the whole box at one time. Then you won’t have to mess with it later if you’re in a hurry or someone walks off with your Laundry Room Scissors.
The modified dryer sheets fit so nicely in the pedestal under my washer.
And of course the best part is that they last twice as long!
I know that die-hard frugal mamas only use 1/4 of a dryer sheet at the time. Or better yet, they don’t use dryer sheets at all – only white vinegar. I’ll admit that I tried both of these alternatives.
In my personal experience, I saw no benefits of using 1/4 of a dryer sheet. It was as if there was no sheet in the dryer at all.
And white vinegar? I love it for towels, sheets and other linens. And the occasional washer load of clothes. But for day to day use, I did not find that it reduced static cling in our clothes. Especially when washing man-made fabrics like fleece and polyester. Vinegar didn’t even put a dent in those.
So try 1/2 of a dryer sheet next time you dry a load. I think you’ll like your results!

I have been doing this for a while. It really does work. My mother-in-law thinks I’m crazy, and when she is visiting she will throw in 3 or 4 of my half sheets. I just can’t convince her.
I agree – it does really work! And every little bit counts when saving money.

Hey Liz!
Some people love to use white vinegar in the rinse cycle as a fabric softener. Instead of using the traditional liquid softener (like Downy or Snuggle, for example), they use white vinegar instead.
While I like it to use it on loads of towels, it doesn’t reduce static cling enough in my regular loads of clothing laundry. We have lots of fleece, which is super static-y!
