This past week, I had the opportunity to spend 4 fabulous nights at the Opryland Hotel at Blissdom – a conference for women bloggers. I’ve only been writing at Mama’s Laundry Talk for about 2 months, so I was eager to glean every bit of wisdom the speakers could pass along. And as Alli Worthington would say: they definitely brought the awesome.
In a big way.
FTC guidelines, vlogging, earning money while blogging, how to create better posts and content were just a few of the topics covered. By Saturday night, my head was literally hurting from content overload.
Since I’ve been blogging such a short time, I have very few friends (if any!) in the online realm. There were 500 women bloggers at Blissdom, and the vast majority were so welcoming and friendly. It was such a relief to be one of the many new-girls-on-the-block and be welcomed with such sincerity. It was a big task for this introverted girl to introduce herself over and over, but I was so thrilled that I did! I met fabulous lady after fabulous lady. It was hugely worth it to put myself out there, far out of my comfort zone.
Savvy Blogging. Did it get any better than this Savvy Blogging Dinner event? It was definitely the highlight of the conference for me. How blessed I was to sit at a table with knowledgeable girls. And they were so willing to share their insight and perspective. I was shocked that once-strangers were so freely giving of their ideas and were willing to brainstorm. Marcy from Stretching a Buck led our table’s discussion and answered my 5 million questions very patiently and with expertise.
A big thanks to the bloggers who make up Savvy Blogging…for organizing it all, for finding sponsors who served a fabulous dinner, and for creating a comfortable environment for experienced and not-so experienced bloggers to benefit. Not to mention the fab swag. Wow.
It would be terribly hard to pick just one nugget of wisdom from Blissdom. I learned so many things from SEO tips to forming an LLC. But if I had to choose one little gem it would be:
Don’t ‘just a second’ your children all day. Such as, “I’ll be there in just a second.” or “Just a second, honey and I’ll be finished.” Velveteen Mind told a story all mamas could relate to in which she said ‘just a second’ one too many times in a day to her children. There is no need to be on Facebook or Twitter several times throughout the day. All of those conversations will still be going on later. While I knew this, it was a much needed reminder.
It is very true that anyone can blog. Even about laundry! But no one else can be a mother to my children, so I must be very careful with my computer time.
I am so grateful that well-established bloggers are very willing to share their expertise with those of us just starting. It’s a great community that I am honored to be a part of.

This was only my second conference ever so I can tell ya’ – it gets a little easier. Next one you go to (TypeAMom for me) you’ll be so excited to see people you already know, met and got a chance to hug in person at Blissdom. Amazing fun.
Thank you so much for sharing some of what you learned from @VelveteenMind’s session because I missed that one. SO MUCH DEBATE on which sessions to go to. Lol! Post more recaps everyone!
Blessings,

Oh I’m thrilled to know it gets easier! It was tough for this introverted girl! Ha!
@Velveteen Mind? Oh my word – such wisdom.
And you’re right – I had the hardest time deciding which sessions to go to! I was so torn!
Thanks for commenting
I recognize your name from Twitter – hate we didn’t get to meet!

This was my 2nd Blissdom and 3rd conference and it Does get easier
and if you can believe it, more fun!
Alli and Barb totally brought the awesome and I’m so glad that you came.
I think one of my favorite parts of the panels was that there were conflicting views which just shows that what works for you, works for YOU and it’s not a black and white, mathematical equation.
Megan, is amazing
I hope you come back next year!!!!!

Rachel, thank so much for commenting! Yes, I am so glad that I went also. Since I am so new, there was a ton for me to learn. And a million people to meet!
It was great. I’d go back in a heartbeat! (minus the 12+ hour drive home with the baby…)

Blissdom was my first blog conference, and I agree — it was overwhelming for a newbie. But, it was nice to meet you!
