Recently, I’ve discovered a need to create for my children a list of do’s and don’ts with regards to laundry being placed in the wrong baskets. First, a little background: A few years ago, I picked up a wonderful idea somewhere on the web about small laundry baskets for each child in the laundry room. The very next day, my wonderful husband put a shelf in our laundry room for our kids’ baskets. As I fold the laundry, everyone’s folded clothes just go in their baskets. As the baskets are filled, the kids take them and put away their laundry.
Now, I guess as I’ve gotten older and my brain has become more feeble, sometimes people’s clothes get put in the wrong basket, hence, the need for the do’s and don’ts list. Here it is: my kids’ new list:
If you discover an article of clothing in your basket that does not belong to you:
Don’t shove said article to the very back of your dresser drawer since, after all, it’s not yours and you won’t be wearing it.
Do simply return the article of clothing to its rightful owner.
Don’t wear said article of clothing because: a) you like it and you wish it were yours, b) you want to annoy your sibling, or c) you don’t want to wear your own article of clothing to (fill in the blank with any task sure to get said article of clothing really dirty).
Do simply return the article of clothing to its rightful owner.
Don’t put said article of clean clothing back into the dirty laundry hamper since, you know, it isn’t yours.
Do simply return the article of clothing to its rightful owner.
Don’t hunt Mom down, wherever she may be, and say, in an extremely put-out tone of voice that tells Mom exactly how senile you think she is becoming, as proved by the whole laundry-in-the-wrong-basket incident, “Mo-om, this isn’t mine; this is (fill in the blank with rightful owner’s name).” Unless, of course, you would like to henceforth be responsible for doing your own laundry.
Do simply return the article of clothing to its rightful owner.

What a great idea! And I love the dos and don’ts. Not like that would ever happen to me of course…ahem.
