Hmmm. By the initial look of things, this can’t possibly be a good thing.
This is the top left corner of my washing machine, which houses the detergent/Oxi Clean/bleach/fabric softener dispenser. Imagine my surprise when I pour in my detergent and it immediately starts running out the front of the dispenser.
That does not make for a happy Mama.
And the words Laundry Fail come to mind.
So what could possibly be the cause of this messy disaster?
A build up of Oxi Clean seemed to be the culprit.
If you’ve read here long at all, you know I love the Oxi Clean. So I wouldn’t dare lessen or (heaven-forbid) discontinue my use of the beloved stain remover.
So it seems that I must step up my game in washing machine maintenance. I typically wash down and sanitize my machine on the 1st of every month.
Rest assured that will now include pulling out the dispenser tray and giving it a through cleaning.
Have you had any laundry fails lately? Tell us all about them…
The love affair with my machine continues. But I will start cleaning out the dispenser as well. I am glad you posted this, considering Pete and Sally (yes, I have names for the washer and dryer I have since they are considered part of the family) are about due for their monthly cleaning cycle. 🙂
Thrills my little soul that you have pet names for the washer and dryer. 😉 Glad you love ’em!

I have front loaders as well. I was so excited when I bought them and I have honestly grown to dislike them! They are so needy!!!
For about 6 weeks I was using Borax in my washer. It too is a powder. In less than 2 months my washer went crazy! Gave errors, leaked, would not start… it did not like me.
My washer’s owners manual specifically says, I find out afterwords, not to use any powder what-so-ever in detergent holding pull out drawers.
The solution: out any powder (in moderation) inside with the clothes!
*I am tell you, these washers are so needy! *
Crystal, I’m sorry you and the front loaders aren’t on good terms. 🙁
You know it’s interesting, the repairman that had to service our washer told me the same thing about using powder as the actual detergent. And he said specifically, that any homemade detergents would void the warranty on my machine.
When they are running smoothly, front loaders are the best things ever. But you’re right – they are a little needy at times!

PUT (not out) any powder inside the machine with the clothes.
Sorry about that!
